RICC Post Office Mini Bus Service

Following the closure of Ringsend Post Office and the relocation to Barrow Street Ringsend and Irishtown Community Centre (RICC) took the initiative to arrange a free mini bus service for senior citizens and people with disabilities who may have found the journey difficult. The service has been successfully running for over 7 years.

Users have said that coming to the post office provided them with a sense of independence withouth having to rely on family members with transportation and it is something they look forward to each week as it gets them out the the house and gives them a chance to catch up with neighbours and friends. Some even pick up some groceries while our driver patiently waits and they find this an added bonus. The bus departs every Friday from Ringsend Church at 10.15am.

RICC Bus - Our mini bus has 16 seats and is used to facilitate groups and events for our community.

Call Barbara for more information on (01) 660 4789.

The Ringer Boxing Club

Ringsend and Irishtown Community Centre are delighted to announce opening 'The Ringer' boxing club in early 2017

Our staff are tirelessly working round the clock to kit out our brand new club, located at the rear of the community centre. We are delighted to have the participation of Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Carruth, who will be the official patron of The Ringer, "I'm really excited to be on board The Ringer Boxing Club project. Who knows, maybe there's a champion already in the community?!" said Michael on one of his many recent trips to the club.

The Ringer Boxing Club was founded to create an environment focused primarily for young people, where sportsmanship, fair play, physical conditioning and social inclusion are the key elements used to promote healthy mental, spiritual and emotional well being of each member. It is an initiative which aims to support those at risk and is operated under strict principles.

RICCY's Youth Cafe

Ringsend and Irishtown Youth Service operate from RICCY's Youth Cafe on Irishtown Road. RICCY's recognizes the rights of young people and holds as central their active and voluntary participation. We engage with young people in what we believe to be empowering relationships, based on mutual respect and trust in order to respond to their identified and changing needs. We work with young people aged 10 to 25 years. Our mission is to promote young people's personal growth and development, to enable them to make informed life choices in an ever-changing society, while working towards the enhancement of their own and community lifestyles.

The space is youth-led and in equal partnership with the Youth Workers. It is a safe space for all young people. The role of a Youth Worker is to help young people to empower themselves, advocate for their rights and to learn how to use their voice. Through these relationships between young people and the Youth Workers, trust and understanding is built over time. This work has resulted in the forming of a youth committee who run the Youth Cafe every Monday night from 7.00 - 9.00. They have full ownership of the running of every aspect from the tuck shop to organizing activities every week for the young people attending. There is also a teenage boys drop in on Wednesday evenings from 6.30 - 7.30 PM.

We do a lot of Project Based Group Work including informal educational activity based programmes, for example, Information Technology, Outdoor Education, Arts or issue-based sessions e.g. Sexual Health, Active and healthy, Physical and Mental wellbeing, Drugs and Alcohol Awareness, achieving full potential in all areas of learning and development, safe and protected from harm, economic security and opportunity and connected, respected and contributing to their world.

Outreach is undertaken with a view to inform young people, parents/guardians, agencies and interested parties of services provided. One to One Support is offered within a framework of dialogue, reflection and action, depending on the individuals' needs. Open space is provided consistently to enable young people to become comfortable and familiar in a youth cafe style setting, where there is access to information, supports and services.

If you are interested in joining RICCY's Youth Cafe please contact one of the youth team on (01) 5159 523 or avail of the drop-in sessions.
